In this module, you will explore the importance of advocacy, your role as an advocate for clients and communities, and strategies needed to help develop social support. You will learn how to build capacity by understanding community assets, individual strengths, and the factors and conditions influencing how people change. You will also become familiar with teaching and learning principles and strategies that will help you develop and implement individual and community education programs that promote health and wellness.

Learning objectives:

  1. Build the skills necessary to engage in advocacy to remove barriers to health, increase access to resources, and promote health equity for clients, families and communities.
  2. Learn community outreach methods to understand factors influencing community needs, perceptions, and preferences and facilitate connections to resources to improve health.
  3. Incorporate learning principles and teaching strategies into individual/community health and wellness training programs.

Audience: Youth 16+; Adults exploring healthcare careers.
