In this module, you will learn how to effectively communicate verbally and nonverbally with clients from diverse cultures. You will gain knowledge and skills in active listening, interviewing, and developing and maintaining positive relationships with clients, their families, and communities. An essential part of being a Community Health Worker (CHW) is learning the proper approach to support a client in making changes. Learning strategies to collaborate within a multidisciplinary healthcare team is also important. Finally, you will learn essential skills for professional conduct as a CHW.

Learning objectives:

  1. Demonstrate appropriate professional verbal and nonverbal communication and listening skills.
  2. Build interpersonal, interviewing, and conflict management skills.
  3. Develop skills in coaching to help support change.
  4. Apply strategies that demonstrate respect for diverse cultures and that ensure effective teamwork and collaboration with a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
